| THE
GCE 'O' LEVEL EXAMINATIONS
The GCE
'O' Level Examinations are nation-wide examinations
held at the end of Secondary Four. These examinations are administered
by the University of Cambridge International Examinations and are recognised throughout
the world. The standardisation of these examinations allows them
to be a reliable means of assessing ability for entrance into
tertiary institutions such as Junior Colleges or Polytechnics.
Students who are not in Singapore local schools but who wish
to obtain certification for further studies or work may sit for
the 'O' Level Examinations as private candidates..
WHY IS PREPARATION NECESSARY?
The standard of the 'O' Level Examinations is high. Local students
undergo four years of secondary training before sitting for these
examinations. In addition to its demanding content, foreign students
may have to overcome a language barrier as all the examinations
(except language papers) are in English.
GCE 'O' LEVEL PREPARATORY COURSE
The GCE 'O' Level Preparatory Course aims to prepare throroughly
students for the 'O' Level Examinations as private candidates
by helping them not only in the content area but also in the aspect
of language.
To
aid our students, we have chosen 'O' Level examination papers
that require minimal language proficiency; thus we are offering
seven 'O' Level subjects, namely, English, Chinese/Malay,
Mathematics E, Additional Mathematics, Principles of Accounts,
Chinese
Literature, Physics and Combined Science. The 'O'
Level Preparatory Course will take a total of two years or
1-year INTENSIVE Course, following the Secondary
3 and 4 syllabi in local schools. However, if a student is
able to pass our Secondary 3 examination papers, he may be
allowed to start immediately on the second year of the course.
Before
a student is able to enrol in the 'O' Level Preparatory Course,
there are a few prerequisites that need to be met:
The
student must prove, through our proficiency test, that he has
an English standard above Secondary 2 level. If he is unable
to reach this standard, he can then attend our Intensive English
Preparatory Course in order to help him meet the English requirements.
The
student must have completed a national middle school and reached
the age of 15.
This
'O' Level Preparatory Course is a full-time course with classes
held from Monday to Friday, six hours per day. Foreign students
who successfully enrol in the course will require a Student's
Pass issued by the Singapore Immigration Department. Our Centre
is able to help foreign students apply for this Student's Pass
if necessary.
