General Chinese
Conversational Mandarin

Course Description:
Conversational Mandarin is specifically designed to meet the needs of adults who wish to master the skills of practical Mandarin in a short period of time. Delivered by our team of experienced teachers, who make Chinese learning fun and stimulating, it consists of a four-module programme to :

- impart standard pronunciation of Mandarin to learners
- help speakers improve in their fluency and tone in Mandarin
- provide participants with the language skills and knowledge required to communicate effectively in Mandarin in various situations
- assist learners in acquiring an in-depth understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture

Programme Types
Basic Level
For Adult Learners who
- CANNOT speak Mandarin at all

Aim
- to develop the learners’ ability to use phonetics in the Chinese language (Hanyu Pinyin) accurately;
- to be able to speak simple Mandarin for common use

Objectives
- learners should be able to use Mandarin to inform and explain in interactive activities; and use vocabulary suitable for a variety of purposes and audiences

Intermediate Level
For Adult Learners who
- have completed Basic Level
- can speak little Mandarin; or
- have learned Mandarin for at least 30 hours

Aim
- to develop the learners’ ability to use phonetics in the Chinese language (Hanyu Pinyin) accurately;
- to be able to speak simple Mandarin for common use
- to use Pinyin accurately and confidently
- to be lexically confident in everyday situations that require formal or informal conversations

Objectives
- learners should be able to use Mandarin to express themselves in more detail and confidence

Upper Intermediate Level
For Adult Learners who
- have completed Intermediate Level
- have basic understanding of Mandarin
- have learned Mandarin for at least 60 hours
- would like to improve in terms of fluency and tone in Mandarin

Aim
- to develop the learners’ ability to speak Mandarin for business situations
- to acquire a basic understanding of Chinese Culture in business interactive activities

Objectives
- learners should be able to use Mandarin with confidence for business situations and appreciate the Chinese Culture in formal business activities

Advanced Level
For Adult Learners who
- have completed Upper Intermediate level
- learned Mandarin for at least 120 hours
- can speak Mandarin with confidence
- can read and write Chinese

Aim
- to develop the learners’ ability to express their views with confidence
- to develop skill in reading newspapers and simple reports or contracts

Objectives
- learners should be able to deliver a speech in formal situations and read newspapers, reports and contracts

- Report and contract reading

Course Structure & Fees

 Registration: S$50 for new student only
- Fees are subject to 7% GST
- Fees must be paid before the commencement of the course
- Fees paid are neither refundable nor transferable unless documentary proof from a recognized medical authority is produced or the class is cancelled due to insufficient intake
- There will be no lessons on public holidays

Certificate of Attendance
Participants who have attained an attendance of 80% and above will be presented with a Certificate of Attendance at the end of the course.
